Natural Indigo Extract
Description: This natural extract has been cooked with alum and powdered to make it easier to handle but it still needs either a fermentation or chemical vat.
This is a fascinating blue-dye plant with many relatives in Australia, Asia, China, India, South Africa, Japan, and other parts of the world. Used in the Mid-East since c. 8000 BC, later used on medieval illuminations. Indigo is best on cotton, linen; good on other fibers. Mordants affect indigo only in making it darker or more grayed.
